Five Senses Grounding Challenge

What it is?
A simple, evidence-based mindfulness activity that helps individuals reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and refocus attention by engaging all five senses. This activity can be done seated or standing, independently or in a group, and takes 2 to 5 minutes.
How does it work?
Participants pause and identify:

Why does it matter?
Grounding techniques help calm the nervous system and are shown to reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm. This activity is especially helpful for individuals experiencing pain, fatigue, cognitive overload, or worry.
Why is it perfect for outpatient therapy?
PT: It supports breath awareness, posture, and body awareness
OT: It develops emotional regulation, routines, and coping strategies
ST: It reinforces attention, cognition, and sensory-based language prompts
